Auburn Hair

I'm been in such a good mood lately, or maybe I should rather say a "fiery" mood! I just got my hair colored in auburn for the upcoming fall, and I am so in love! The highlights were done by my lovely multi-talented hairdresser, Molly Strover, at M.C. Hair Consultants and Studio MC. I am so happy I took the brave route and went for a color that I have never tried before. Now I may never want to highlight my hair again! I may have to eventually, but for now I'll enjoy it as it is. So for my first beauty blog, I want to discuss hair color!

First off, let me just start off by saying that I've always admired red hair. I think the color red in general is a very confident color, which is what I talked about in my last fashion blog Bold Red. There's so much fierce and beauty in that color, which is why I enjoy wearing it. At age fifteen, I became very obsessed with Emma Stone's fiery locks. Now as an adult, I'm obsessed with Julia Roberts's glamorous hairdo in Pretty Woman. So my inspiration for the hair color was kind of a combination of both. Also let me say that brunettes do not have many options when it comes to dying hair, highlights are much more doable. Blonde and rainbow colors don't necessarily work in dark hair very well, and there's nothing worse than dark roots and colored hair combined. I also prefer brunette hair over any color for me, even ginger. I like the idea of keeping my natural tone, but I want to be adventurous as well. These auburn highlights are perfect because they still show dark brown in the scalp area. The red brings a perfect contrast to the layers, not too bright nor too dark. I may now have to be called a brunette redhead!

I do want to give a few tips for coloring hair, whether you are coloring it yourself or have a hairdresser to do it for you. If you want small highlights, use some metal foil to dye the parts you want and leave a few bits of natural color. If you want all of your hair colored, just paint the dye all over, and don't leave any pieces uncolored. Then either you or your hairdresser will tell you to wait about thirty minutes to wash out and blow dry. Afterwards, you should wait at least twenty-four hours to wash again in the shower. If you can wait a little longer, forty-eight hours is even better. Also, don't be alarmed if you see some your hair color come out while in the shower, that's just extra dye. It's common, especially with red hair. It almost kind of looked like someone was murdered in the bathtub!

I hope this was helpful to anyone considering highlighting or dying their hair for the fall, and feel free to leave any questions in the comment section. Now in the meantime, I'm going to enjoy feeling like Vivian Ward for a little while!
